FILM MAKER
Wilson Louis, M.Sc. is a post-graduate in Mass Communication, from E.M.R.C., Pune University. His faculty was Film and T.V direction with specialization in film direction.
On the competition of his course, Wilson started his journey as the director of a T.V program titled “Mirch Masala”. This program was directed under the guidance of Mr. Mahesh Bhatt. On appreciation of his vision and creative instincts, he was appointed as the head of channels like ETC channel and CMM Music. During this stint, he directed more than 21 film based programs, 5 talk shows and a couple of fiction shows. His creative inputs and innovative ideas for channel packing and promos, gave a major boost to the channels. However, his main aim was to explore into visual effects for creative satisfaction.
Wilson’s dream was realized, when he was invited to head Maya Entertainment as a Visual Effects Director cum General Manager Operations, with the complete control of 3D animations and visual effects division. Here, Wilson Louis explored his talent to the fullest and apart from doing visual effects for channels like Star, Zee and production houses like UTV and Prime Channel, completed 40 feature films as a visual effects director.
In order to further his career, Wilson Louis took a leap and directed a short film titled titled "6 x 4 - the space" (the story of a lift man), which was a very unique concept of shooting in DV format and transferring it to the 35mm format. This short film was highly acclaimed and won the award for the ‘Best short film’ at the International Seagate Awards for technical brilliance, in the year 2004, giving the right spurt to Wilson’s career in film making.
Wilson Louis was immediately assigned to direct a feature film titled "Ho Sakta Hai" by a corporate house. He chose to pick up a theme of Black Magic featuring Victor Banerjee. The film delved into the inner fears of people, who believe and disbelieve in black magic. This film won multiple awards like ‘Best 3D SFX Sequence’ at the Seagate Technical Awards 2005, it was also nominated in 3 categories including ‘Best SFX’ film in India, at the FICCI frames 2005 and therefore showcased his talent.
"Ho Sakta Hai" has the distinction of been translated in various international languages. The film was also screened at Cannes and Filmpur, England. The script and screenplay was officially invited by the Oscars affiliated-Margaret Herrick Library and got included in their library, as a reference film for story and screenplay which not many films made in India can boast of.
After this, Wilson’s interest in paranormal cinema grew and his quest into the same made him decide to focus entirely on the horror genre since this genre has not been tapped to its fullest potential in India.
Wilson Louis’ next film is a horror, ‘Mallika’ produced by Percept Picture Company and Glorious Entertainment. Its protagonist Sanjana is haunted by nightmares and vivid visions of a murder that took place in the house years before she moved in! She has a special gift or rather a curse to see the unseen... to witness the dark past of any place she inhabits. Not able to take the horrific recreation of the death anymore, Sanjana decides to leave the house and go on a vacation... to a secluded fort cum resort in Rajasthan... hoping that her visions will stop chasing her! However little does she know that things are going to go from bad to worst at the fort which holds a darker secret deep inside its chest… a past that will change Sanjana’s life forever! The film is releasing all over India on 3rd September 2010.
Wilson Louis’ next film that’s slate to release in November, during Diwali, is India’s first creature based live-action day horror film. There’s extensive use of CG (computer generated) VFX (visual effects) in the film as portraying horror scenes in broad daylight was a big challenge. The concept was appreciated and named “Kaalo – the desert witch” as it revolves around a deadly witch attacking a bus in the deserts of Rajasthan for killing a small girl played by Shwini khare of “Cheeni cum” fame who is one of the passengers. The film was shot extensively in Rajasthan and is complete. ‘Kaalo’ is written and directed by Wilson Louis and produced by Beyond Dreams. The film is scheduled to have a Diwali release in Nov 2010. The film also stars Sameer Datani, Mamik, Himanshu Malik, Suresh Menon and Rajesh Khera.
Another film that’s coming up, written and directed by Wilson Louis and produced by Morpheus Media Ventures Pvt. Ltd. is ‘Shout’. Shout has Seema biswas, Sushant Singh, Ashish Vidhyarthi and Sayali bhagat as the leading artist in the film. It’s a paranormal thriller about a young, newly married couple on their honey-moon to a lush green countryside where they take accommodation at an old bungalow in which, only the owners, an old couple stay. The young couple starts getting increasing visions of kids in the bungalow though there’s no one else staying there. The movie proceeds to reveal what they discover about the place and how it involves them and the old couple. The film is almost complete with just one schedule remaining that would be shot in November and the movie is scheduled to release in Jan 2011.
